§ 46-39. Minimum qualifications for membership.
(a)
No person shall be appointed to the fire department of the city who does not meet the minimum qualifications outlined in the application form prescribed by the chief of the fire department and on file in the office of the city clerk and treasurer.
(b)
The minimum qualifications as to age, weight and physical measurements incorporated in such application form are hereby adopted and declared to be the minimum requirements and qualifications of any applicant. No person shall be permanently appointed to the fire department of the city who does not meet such minimum requirements and qualifications; provided, however, that such minimum qualifications shall not apply to and shall not be required of any person employed by the city in the fire department at the time of the adoption of the ordinance from which this section is derived.
