§ 46-44. Authority to abolish offices and reduce compensation.

  • The city council shall have the right in good faith for the purpose of economy or for any other purpose in its judgment necessary or desirable for the public welfare to abolish any office existing in the fire department and, in order to accomplish any of such purposes, to reduce the compensation or the number of firefighters or officers of the fire department if in the judgment of the council such reduction in compensation or number is deemed necessary or desirable in the interest of economy or the public welfare.
