§ 62-5. Persons sentenced to work on streets.

  • All offenders sentenced to work on the streets or to do other work shall obey all orders given by the officer or other person placed in charge of such offenders and shall, during the appointed time, diligently labor under the direction of such officer or other person under pain of further punishment. Any failure to obey such directions shall be unlawful. All persons so confined at hard labor shall be furnished with good, clean and wholesome food while in such confinement. Upon payment of a fine imposed upon any offender during the term of his confinement, the chief of police may forthwith discharge such offender, and the offender shall be entitled to a deduction from such fine for any labor done by such offender before such payment. Nothing contained in this section shall prevent the discharge of any offender on account of illness.
